Mini PA 45W Power Amplifier Yaesu FT-817ND
After 3 weeks, the PA has arrived from Hong Kong in Germany. At first everything seems to be OK. Then I realized that the PL jacks had the wrong pitch. So I had to replace the 2 sockets to the right PL jacks. So, soldering iron – in 15 minutes was all done. The PA works. With low battery capacity come out even 20W. At full battery then 45 watts. Perfect. The interaction with the interface cable and the FT-817 works.
Features:
- MiNiPA50 HF amplifier
- Power supply: 13.8V current: 7-9A
- Input power: 5W
- Output power: 45W
- Band: 80m 40m 30m-17m 15m-10m band
- Band control mode: manual mode rotary switch band; automatic mode control via ACC line
Got it as well
No issues with PL threading, but I noticed that HF power is slightly lower
I can output ca 40W on 80 and 40m , on 20 it will be more about 30-35
and on 10m 30W at best
my FT-817 produced nevertheless 5W RF output
Not sure about how high you can go for RF input with this amp (as they advertize it as also good companion for KX2 or KX3 that can produce 10W as well)
Anyway it‘ working as adverized giving more punch to the signal – had no issues to contact (all on SSB) all Europe, Bahrain or Emirates during holidays in Poland or USA and Canada (being on the boat off coast on southern France close to Cannes)
In both case using 10m long wire in enfed half wave configuration tuned directly for 20m band only and w/o any tuner.
Reports were basically good.
I just got received my Minipa50. I have the same problem with the wrong threading on the PL jacks.
Also the problem with the low output on 20/30 meters seems to be with the filtering. With the filter set on 30/17M it appears to attenuate the signal on 20M. If I manually put the filter setting on 15M then I get full output on 20M.
I have not checked the output for harmonics on this setting. I will see if I can come up with a mod to fix this problem but if someone beats me to it, please let me know.
I am just wondering what are the differences between this model and MX-P50M? I am trying to make a decision to purchase an amplifier and your answer will greatly help me to make the right decision.
Thanks in advance,
